Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics and Post Graduate & Research Department of Food and Nutrition offers three programmes.

  • Undergraduate:B. Sc Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Postgraduate:M.Sc Food and Nutrition
  • M. Phil:M.Phil Food and Nutrition

The Undergraduate Programme“Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics”introduced in 2005 aims at developing the innate talent of the students to meet the demands of the changing scenario in health care. With an ever-growing demand for dietitians in India and abroad, our students are offered lucrative job opportunities in the health care arena. This programme integrates theoretical knowledge related to nutrient metabolism and disease with therapeutic aspects of nutrition support. The curriculum includes core papers like Clinical Nutrition, Medical Nutrition Therapy, Sports Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Human Development, Food Service Management and Interior Decoration that form the vital components of health care management.

The Master’s programme “Food and Nutrition” introduced in 2003, aims at developing research skills and abilities in nutritional issues of contemporary interest. The highlight of this programme is papers like Applied Statistics and Research Methodology, Clinical Biochemistry, Analytical techniques in Nutrition, Medical Nutrition therapy, Food and Drug interaction, Public Health Nutrition,Innovative product development and Advanced Studies in Food Science, Carbohydrate, Energy, Proteins, Lipids, Vitamins and Minerals which provides a profound insight in the field of food and nutrition.

The Department was upgraded into a research department in the year 2009 with the introduction of M.Phil programme in Food and Nutrition. Emphasis on promotion of research activities and teaching is the ultimate goal of this programme. It is accomplished through the papers like Research Methodology and Introduction to teaching learning process and Advanced paper in Food and Nutrition. Dissertation work kindles the spirit of research and development among the students.

The dietetic internship program undertaken by the students in various hospitals provide hands on experience in the field of dietetic practice. The tie up with various consultancies has helped the department to place its students in coveted jobs. Students are equipped to take up jobs in the areas of patient care in hospitals, fitness centres, nutritional counsellors, diabetic educators, child development project officers, nutritional marketing, nutritional research, teaching in schools and colleges, food industries and in various government departments of food quality control.
