Department Of Psychology
The Department of Psychology is an undergraduate Department, incepted in the year 2003.
The sanctioned strength of the Department was increased from 30 to 50 in the year 2011.The number of applications received has steadily been on the rise from the year of inception and the pass percentage of the department has also been above 85 % from the time of inception.
Every year the dept celebrates its annual association meet PSYNERGY during which we invite experts in the field of mental health, to enlighten students on various fields of specialisation. PSYNERGY has been viewed as one of the best practices of the department as they are theme based. Invited lectures, intra and intercollegiate events are aligned to the theme. Psynergy, in the previous years has focussed on positive psychology, environmental psychology, neuropsychology, social psychology, psychology of crime etc, Rehabilitation Psychology. This year we have chosen to understand Protective factors in adolescent Mental Health. Apart from this, the department has organised 3 National Seminars in the following topics” Well being across life span”, “ Emerging Trends in Neuropsychology” and “Promoting positive mental health in adolescents and 2 State level workshops. Periodic guest lectures are organised within the department with respect to every subject being taught.
Despite being an undergraduate department, the staff and students of the department present and publish research papers periodically. The papers of our students have won the best paper award at national and international conferences. Our students have also won the “YOUNG psychologist competition” held by Christ University, Bangalore for their research presentation. The staffs of the department also serve as resource persons for workshops and other training programmes. They are invited as subject experts on Board of studies and members of the academic audit panel.
The department also has a rich cultural life with students participating in many co-curricular and extra - curricular activities. Many students also take up summer internships in places of repute. The department also conducts a certificate course in dyslexia in collaboration with kids learning centre. The department also takes up extension activities and students are also take part in extension activities of the college such as rotaract, Red Ribbon Club, etc
