History of the School

The Ethiraj Matriculation School was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Justice Thiru. S. Natrajan, former chairman Ethiraj college trust on May 23 1994. In July 1994 the school opened with 34 pupils, 3 teaching and 6 non-teaching staff. On June 2000 a new building worth Rs.1 ½ crores was opened by Hon’ble Justice Thiru. D. Raju, Judge Supreme Court of India. In January 5th 2001 a new Dining Hall was opened for use. In June 2001 the school was upgraded to 12th std with 520 students, 28 teaching and 16 non-teaching staff. In 2002 the students of 10th and 12th standard secured cent percent result. In 2007 the school building was extended with 2 extra floors and a spacious Ethiraj Hall. In June 2009 the school had a strength of 1508 students with 51 teaching and 20 non-teaching staff.

Located in the centre of Fort City- Vellore, Ethiraj Matriculation Hr. Sec. School was inaugurated by the Honourable Justice Thiru. C. Natarajan, Former Chairman Ethiraj College Trust on 23rd May 1994. In July 1994 the school opened with 34 pupils , 3 teaching and 6 non-teaching staff with L.K.G. , U.K.G. and I std .In the year 1995, it was upgraded to High School.

Every Opportunity is taken to use the richness of the Local environment to enhance school’s curriculum. In the year 2000, High School was upgraded for Higher Secondary School with following groups in the year 2000:

  • Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science
  • Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
  • Physics,Chemistry,Botany,Zoology

Changes in the modern world have also brought new subjects into the curriculum in the recent years. In 2001, a new group – Commerce, Accountancy, Economics, Computer Science was introduced and in the year 2012, Business Mathematics group was introduced.

The school fosters a strong sense of community and provides a supportive , nurturing, Spacious, ventilated class rooms, well equipped laboratories, Playground, Library and warm environment .Classes are overseen by highly qualified, dynamic and enthusiastic staff ensure that boys and girls benefit not only academically but also personally. We provide enrichment of opportunities for a “Well-rounded” education. Pupils may elect to join in Scout and Guide, JRC, NCC, Green force and to take part in Karate, Yoga, dance and Musical activities.

Today, the school’s purview the extends from the genes to the globe. Overall, we aim to create an educational environment, which fosters the development of happy, multi-skilled, well informed, tolerant and healthy citizens who can excel in a rapidly changing world.


  • Four batches of 10th std students from the year 1999-2003 secured 100% results.
  • Two batches of 12th std students from 2001-2003 secured 100% results.
  • Our school secured 9th place in District Level Science Competition.
  • In 2003-2004 P. Ramya of 12th std from Biology group secured 1st rank in Vellore District and 5th rank in the State Level.
  • In 2004-2005 R. Damodharan of 4th std participated in the District Chess tournaments for boys and won the title as District Champion.
  • G.Abirami and R.Vijayashree won the 1st prize in dance conducted by Govt. Arts Academy.
  • In 2005-06 our school secured 2nd place in the inter school competitions organized by V.V.Rajan book publishers at District Level.
  • In 2007-08 13 students received Rajya Purashkar Award.
  • In 2008-09 Sailesh of 5th std secured 2nd place in the Karate competition held at Andhra state.
  • In 2009-10 our school conducted the Zone Level Sports meet.
  • Department of Entamology in C.M.C conducted a Quiz programme, P.Poornima and R.Vaishnavi of 12th std won a prize.
  • NIIT challengers conducted an inter school drawing competition, U.Dinesh bagged the 1st place in top 10 schools.
  • Govt. of Tamilnadu organized various competitions for the schools in District level. Our students have been selected to compete in District level.
