National Cadet Corps (NCC)

NCC REPORT 2016-2017

The Ethiraj NCC company activities for this year started off with the orientation programme for freshers on 12th July, 2016. The main objective of the programme was to highlight the opportunities offered in NCC and to motivate the freshers to enrol themselves. The session was presided by an ex NCC cadet of DG Vaishnav college Mr. K. Shenoy, a social activist who was and our college alumni cadets.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Cpl. S. Sivapriya of II B.Sc Mathematics represented Tamilnadu state in the Thal Sainik Campheld at New Delhi and brought laurels to the state as an individual among 17 states which competed all over from India in the month of September 2016.

Cpl. S. Linshi Rebecca II BA Economics and Cpl. K.M. Jabira Farzana BA English Literature represented Madras ‘A’ inInter Group Competition for Contingent Drill and Prime Minister’s Rally and also reached the Training Camps of Republic Day Camp.

represented Madras ‘A’ in Thal Sainik Camp Inter Group Competition.

Sgt. Priyanka Kumari Sahani represented Tamilnadu state in the National Integration Camp held at Nagercoil in October 2016.

Represented Tamilnadu state in National Integration Camp at Odisha during December 2016.

Cdt. Maria Priscilla II BA English Literature got selected for Marina Republic Day parade and marched in front of our ex Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Mr. O. Paneerselvam.

INTER COLLEGIATE COMPETITIONS:

Our College cadets participated in CADO FIESTA organized by The Tamilnadu Dr. Ambedhkar Law University during 10th,11th & 12th February 2016 , our cadets participated and won the following prizes

  • National Integration Awareness Programme, our college was placed First.
  • Group Dance, we were placed second for the theme dance performed by our cadets.
  • Cdt. Thamilarasi I B.Sc Chemistry secured Best Cadet Gold medal among the 20 colleges.
  • Cdt. Sabitha I BA Economics won 3rd prize in the event of survivor, where the cadets have to undergo rigorous physical workout.
  • Cpl. S. Linshi RebeccaII BA Economics and Cpl. S. SivapriyaII B.Sc Mathematics Won 2nd place in Kholna Jholna, dismantling and assembling rifle within a minute.

CADO FESTcompetition conducted by D.G Vaishnav College on 2nd, 3rd and 4th of March 2016 our college cadets won OVERALL RUNNER-UPbanner securing prizes in the following events

  • National Integration Awareness Programme, our college was placed Second.
  • In Tent pitching event, where we have to pitch the tent in eight minutes and dismantle the same in two minutes, our college secured third position.
  • Cpl. S. Linshi Rebecca II BA Economics and Cpl. S. SivapriyaII B.Sc Mathematics won the banner for Kholna Jholna.
  • CUO. Ezha Prabha II BA Economics secured first place in General obstacles.

ALL MARTYRS DAY

“It is not the death itself; but purpose of death which made them MARTYRS”

The ethos of our Armed forces has been fashioned over millennia, and has today come to represent the indomitable spirit of the nation as a collective and as a symbol of national integration. To pay homage to those soldiers and officers who sacrificed their lives in defending our nation, All Faith Memorial Service was conducted on 20th August, 2016. The service was witnessed by Arcot Nawab and the Senior Officers of Defence Services.

DAKSHA 2016

“We Strive, We Believe”

An Intra collegiate competition for First year cadets was conducted on 3rd, 4th & 5th of October 2016 which was presided by our Associate NCC Officer Capt. R. Shanthini. Various events such as Contingent drill, Cross country, Obstacles, Map reading, Individual drill, Squad Handling, Written tests for Thal sainik cadets and Best cadets and Cultural events including dance, drama and music were conducted. The ultimate aim of the competition is to motivate the fresher and to bring out the talents in them. Our college cadets showcased their talents and potential.

SOCIAL SERVICE EVENTS:

JOY OF GIVING

The NCC cadets of our college took the pride in helping the senior citizens in “KAKUM KARANGAL” an old age home for women on 29th December 2016. We conducted cultural programmes to entertain them and also distributed snacks to them.

CELEBRATIONS WITH CHILDREN

Our cadets celebrated Christmas and New Year with the orphan children in the “SHIELD” orphanage on 30th December 2016.

PARK CLEANING

One of the few places covered with plants and trees must be kept free from plastics and wastes our cadets cleaned the Nageshwara Rao Park at Mylapore on 25th January 2017 to bring awareness among people to stop throwing wastes in the environment

Agriculture can be rightly called as life line as it produces food. This has been fading out recently; in order to revive it we took a small step by performing skits regarding agriculture in the Coyambedu marketon 28th of January 2017
