DEPARTMENT OF CLINICAL NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

DEPARTMENT HISTORY:

The Department of Clinical Nutrition And Dietetics, introduced in 2005 aims at developing the innate talent of the students to meet the demands of the changing scenario in health care. With an ever-growing demand for dietitians in India and abroad, our students are offered lucrative job opportunities in the health care arena. The course integrates theoretical knowledge related to nutrient metabolism and disease with therapeutic aspects of nutrition support. The curriculum includes core papers like clinical nutrition, Medical Nutrition therapy, Health psychology, Performance Nutrition, Human Development, Food service Management and family studies that form the vital components of health care management. The dietetic internship program undertaken by the students in various hospitals provide hands on experience in the field of dietetic practice. The tie up with various consultancies has helped the department to place its students in coveted jobs. Students are equipped to take up jobs in the areas of patient care in hospitals, fitness centres, nutritional counsellors, child development project officers, nutritional marketing, nutritional research and teaching. They also get placed in food industries, food adulteration safety and regulation, food quality control etc.

The Master’s program in this discipline, introduced in 2003 aims at developing research skills and abilities in nutritional issues of contemporary interest. The highlights of this course is the inclusion of papers like Clinical Biochemistry, Analytical techniques in Nutrition, Food and Drug interaction, Community Nutrition ,Innovative product development and Advanced Studies in Carbohydrate, lipids, vitamins and minerals which provides a deep insight in the field of food and nutrition

The department was upgraded into a research department in the year 2009 with the introduction of M.Phil course in Food and Nutrition. Emphasis on promotion of research activities and teaching us the ultimate goal of this course is accomplished through the inclusion of papers like Research Methodology and Introduction to teaching learning process and Advanced paper in Food and Nutrition. Dissertation work kindles the spirit of research and development among the students.
