Passion Rediscovered


The first Asia Pacific masters games held in Penang, Malaysia from 7Th to 15Th September was a platform for the sports lovers to rediscover their passions. About 64 countries and 5500 athletes participated in a total of 22 games. The games were conducted for various age categories starting from the 30+ category.

The Indian contingent comprised of players from various states belonging to various games and age groups. The basketball women 35+ team that bagged the Gold medal comprised of 8 players from Tamil Nadu out of which 5 are alumni of Ethiraj College for Women, Vidya Sivakumar (captain), Saranya, Usha, Sudha and Vijaya Priya, who previously represented the state of Tamil Nadu and Madras University at different levels.

Vidya Sivakumar is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of English.

A former international player who represented India in the Asian Basketball championship held in Tokushima, Japan in 1998, found yet another opportunity to make the country proud and bring laurels.
