The academic year 2017-2018 commenced with a speech by our alumna Mrs. Revathi Balakrishnan, who was honoured by the former U.S. President Barack Obama as “2016 Texas Teacher of the Year”. Dr. A.Nirmala, Principal and Secretary, addressed the students and her words filled the arena with positive vibes. She extended a warm welcome to the guest speaker. She, herself being an alumna, shared her nostalgic moments with the students. Her words instilled in every Ethirajian the pride in being a student of ETHIRAJ COLLEGE FOR WOMEN. Dr.Sheela Kirubakaram, Vice Principal (Aided) welcomed the speaker with a brief description about her objectives and achievements. Mrs.Balakrishnan enlightened the students with her speech on life’s perspectives. The key areas of her speech were – seizing opportunities and pursuing one’s passion. She brought out the need to be optimistic in today’s world. She shared her real life experiences which highlighted the need for women’s education. She emphasized on how Ethiraj College moulded her future towards her dream career as a teacher, which helped her become the Texas teacher of the year in 2016. Mrs. Balakrishnan interacted with the students throughout her speech. She briefed the students about her way of teaching and brain storming techniques carried out by her. Her innovative ideas make one think “out of the box” and her “Goldsberg technique” made academics green in her students’ hearts. Her motivating words gave the students a good start for the academic year. Mrs Revathi stirred the spirit of Ethirajians with a powerful and enthusiastic speech. Later, Dr.M.Sekar, Member, Ethiraj College Trust, addressed the gathering and acquainted the students about the potentiality of their passion.
